Close(t) Encounter


This is based on a true story.

Many many moons ago when I was still working in a financial institution in KL, I would already be in the office by 7ish every morning. Why? Office was located in Jalan Sultan Ismail, so you can imagine the jam if I were to come to work at about 8ish.

Anyway…

So back to the story, I was always the first one to be in the office and I would usually be the one to switch the lights on. So one fine morning, as I was walking to switch the lights on (which was at the end of the room). I heard a very strange noise. It was rather muffled but it was unmistakable.

I have heard a lot of stories about the office being a very ‘keras’ (haunted) place but I didn’t really believe in the stories told. But that morning, I heard that funny noise and I froze in front of my working cubicle. Images of Pontianak and Hantu Raya floating around came to mind as I walked quickly to the end of (a very long) room to reach the light switch. The nearer I get to the end of the room, the louder was the noise…but wait a minute, the noise sounded like a moaning sound…

…No, TWO moaning sound. Two moaning sound one of a mans and the other of a womans.

After I reached the light switch, the sound became so loud that I was certain that it was not Pontianak or Hantu Raya floating around trying to scare the bejeezes of me. The moaning sound came from inside the store room next to the light switch. It was so loud that I’m sure, if there was any Pontianak or Hantu Raya floating around, they’d have cork stuffed in their ears (errrr do they have ears?).

How now brown cow?

I decided to open the door to the store room and what I saw was makcik cleaner (‘the cleaning lady’) was doing the doggy dog style with one of the male cleaners (note that I don't use pakcik here. She was old he was young). They were so into it that I stood there for almost a full 10 seconds before they realized I was there!!

I was horrified as that was my first (and the last one I hope) face-to-face sexual lambada encounter ever. I mean, heck we all watch porn (yes you do admit it) but to catch a makcik cleaner with a male cleaner doing what they were doing in the wee hour of the morning?

The makcik and the male cleaner screamed before they bolted out of the store room and out of the office

Me?

I buy my own pen and eraser after that.

Sleeping (Un)Beauty(?)


Ok, so here’s the thing. These days I sleep around 9:00pm (yes 9:00pm and yes I miss my terawikh), woke up at about 2 in the morning and I’ll stay awake til about 4 before I doze back to sleep.

I have no clue where this hazardous sleeping pattern comes from but it’s making me sleepy and yawning like crazy at work.

Every time I woke up at 2 a.m. I’ll be W.I.D.E awake that there was one time when I even re-arranged the store room and after that just like a clock at 4:00 a.m. sharp I will feel very very sleepy and doze back to sleep. And when I wake up at 6 a.m. I feel exhausted, like I didn’t sleep at all

Why is that?

I’ve tried warm milk before bed but that doesn’t work. I’ve counted sheep, read, change pyjamas, change the bedding but nothing works. I even try poking Mr Frankie so he would wake up at 2 a.m. with me.

And my mood swings! Uh lets not talk about my mood swings. I’m just plain nasty these days.

Help! What is wrong with me?

Dude Looks Like (Almost) A Lady


Being a bachelorette the last 29 years of my life has made me a very very independent woman. I was sent away to a boarding school ever since I was 13 and pretty much left to my own devices since.

I got my own house, buy my own car, buy my own clothes yadayadayada

And now that I am married, I sometimes forgot that I am!

Hahahaha…

Is that possible?

I’m so use of getting things done/going around on my own I sometimes forgot to ask Mr. Frankie what he wants/thinks/would he like to join me.

Yikes!

Now must remember to ask Mr Frankie. I feel bad enough making him watch reruns of Sex & The City last weekend.

Chocolate Chip Cookies



This is a must-have for every Hari Raya. My mom used to order chocolate chip cookies from her friend back in Ipoh but now that we are all here, I decided that this year I'll be baking chocolate chip cookies for the family.

Just like all the recipe that I have, it's simple and easy and fast and guarentee 'sedap' ;)

By the way, if you're a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan, you'll recognize the name of the chocolate morsels in the recipe.

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

PAN COOKIE VARIATION: Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan. Prepare dough as above. Spread into prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on wire rack. Makes 4 dozen bars.

SLICE AND BAKE COOKIE VARIATION:
PREPARE dough as above. Divide in half; wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Shape each half into 15-inch log; wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.* Preheat oven to 375° F. Cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices; place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.

* May be stored in refrigerator for up to 1 week or in freezer for up to 8 weeks.

FOR HIGH ALTITUDE BAKING (5,200 feet): Increase flour to 2 1/2 cups. Add 2 teaspoons water with flour and reduce both granulated sugar and brown sugar to 2/3 cup each. Bake drop cookies for 8 to 10 minutes and pan cookie for 17 to 19 minutes.

Well, after reading ninjabee’s latest update, I realized that I haven’t really been keeping in touch with my high school friends. In fact some of them have no clue of my whereabouts wotsoeva (vice cersa), which is kinda sad in a way since these are the people that I grew up with…literally. I was sent off to a boarding school at a tender young age of 13 and these ladies were my family. From Form 1 when things were scary and intimidating for us up til Form 5 when we were scary and intimidating.

Heheheheh!

Driving in Selayang can cause brain hemorrhage.

Yesterday on my way to Hospital Selayang to visit my mom, some schmuck who thinks that his BMW is more worthy of being on the road than my satria, wrestled my car off the road and nearly into a ditch when he switched from the left lane to the right (taking his place in front of me) without even giving the signal. Do bear in mind that I was going 120 miles on hour, and having to slam on the break at that speed is just plain dangerous.

He was on the phone.

I honked.

He gave me the Finger.

Like what the FISH?!!

You stupid badigol! I hope your p*nis grows warts and fell off!

I was feeling all homicidal gripping my steering and all while Mr. Frankie is trying to calm me down. I have to say my ‘pahala puasa’ was significantly reduced that day. I was cursing like a sailor.

Having to work on Sunday during PUASA! It just sucks! Arrrrrrrr! This is what happened when the Senior Management did not read my memos and e-mails, thereafter resulted in them sending the papers on SUNDAY and expected the papers to be ready first thing on MONDAY morning.

And it’s very unlikely that I will be going home in time for my buka puasa today. Take a look at my desk today at 5:47 p.m.


The Senior Management think making (very) late submission for papers is funny. It’s SO NOT. Especially when numerous reminders were sent out vie e-mail and memo. Kalau macam ni baik tak payah ada dateline. And the fact that these datelines are the ones that’s gonna make my KPI.

And it’s especially frustrating when this is the first day of my buka puasa with my husband!

Tart Nenas Bergulung

Ini adalah kueh raya yang paling saya suka in the world. Namanya Tart Nenas Gulung. Ianya sangat mudah untuk dibuat dan pada masa raya, saya pasti akan 'attack' kueh ini dahulu walaupun terdapat pelbagai kueh lain.

Jadi tahun ini, saya fikir sebagai seorang isteri, saya mesti memasak satu kueh. Tekalah apa kueh pilihan saya?




Tart Nenas Gulung
Bahan-Bahan:
Bahan A
1 kg tepung gandum
1 ketul buttercup
2 biji telur
2 biji kuning telur(untuk disapu)
2 sudu teh esen vanila
2 sudu teh esen nenas
majerin untuk melembutkan doh Bahan B
1 biji nenas
1 ½ cawan gula
4 kuntum bunga cengkih
sehelai daun pandan
Cara:
1. Gaulkan semua bahan A dan uli hingga lembut untuk dijadikan doh.
2. Masak semua bahan B sehingga pekat dan sejukkan.
3. Masukkan doh ke dalam acuan tart dan tekan, kemudian letakkan jem nenas di atasnya dan gulung.
4. Sapukan kuning telur diatasnya untuk nampak lebih berseri, dan bakar.

Tambahan:
Di dalam doh tidak perlu di letakkan gula, kerana jem nenas sudah mempunyai rasa manis.

Mojo Jojo No More?

Last weekend, we attended the first year birthday party of Vogue Mama’s daughter Armia in Andalusia. Vogue Mama and I attended the same boarding school so our circle of friends is pretty much the same people. So while making my rounds saying hellos and all, a good friend of mine grabbed me by my arms and said,

“Babe what happened to you??” whilst looking at me up and down and up and down.

Hokey, so I put on a couple of pounds (ok ok I put on a lot of pounds) that does not mean I’m not hot and sexay as I used to be(?)

“Babe dah kawin does not mean that you can let yourself go”

…and that kinda startled me a lil bit. I don’t think I have let myself go, though I do opt for a more relax and comfy clothes these days. I mean I have scaled down from…

But then again, these days comfort comes first then anything else. Yes I may not be walking around in dresses and heels so much no more but I just find flat shoes and baju kurung are just more comfy.

I once saw a show on Oprah Winfrey on mothers/wives who let themselves go once they got married and have kids. I even heard something about this on Mix.fm the other day.

Is it true that we women let ourselfves go after we got married and have kids?

Ayam Rangup (Ter)Golek

I'm not too sure why but my mouth has been salivating over chicken roast for a week! And the fact that I couldn't find anywhere in KL/PJ area any restaurant that sells really good delicious juicy chicken roast (unlike the one I had back in Ipoh), I have decided that tonight, chicken roast I shall cook.

Though bear in mind that the only thing that I have successfully created in the kitchen is...fire. So my culinary skills in pretty much non-existence.

Mr. Frankensteina even asked me if we should be replacing the mini fire extinguisher that we have in the house when I told him of my pursuit of a juicy delicious tender crispy chicken roast. I take that as his reverse-psychology tactic crap that he uses on me most of the time. I know he wants me to cook chicken roast.

Anyway, since morning I have been surfing the net for an easy, delicious, juicy, foolproof chicken roast recipe and so far this is the best that I found


CRISP ROAST CHICKEN

Ingredients (serves 4)
2kg free-range chicken
1 lemon, quartered
1 bunch thyme
50g butter, melted
2 tablespoons olive oil
675g chat potatoes
steamed carrots and peas, to serve



Method
Preheat oven to 220°C. Remove excess fat from chicken cavity. Wipe chicken inside and out with paper towels (see tip). Select a roasting pan with sides 4cm high.
Place lemon and thyme in chicken cavity. Tie chicken legs together with un-waxed string and tuck neck flap and wings underneath. Combine butter and oil in a small bowl. Brush over both sides chicken. Place, breast side down, on a greased roasting rack in pan. Roast for 35 minutes.

Meanwhile, place potatoes in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil over high heat. Cook for 10 minutes or until almost tender. Drain. Return potatoes to saucepan. Cover to keep warm. Remove chicken from oven. Turn over and baste with butter mixture. Arrange potatoes around chicken. Brush with butter mixture.
Roast both for a further 37 minutes or until juices run clear when chicken thigh pierced with a skewer. Cover and stand for 15 minutes to rest. Carve chicken and serve with potatoes and steamed vegetables.

Notes & tips
Tip: Don't rinse chicken - the skin has natural oils that keep it moist during cooking.

While moving some of my stuff from my apartment to the new abode, I twisted my wrist in a funny angle, which resulted in sore muscle around the wrist area. It was so sakit that even a slight movement made me squirmed in pain.

*sighs*

So now that I’m a one-arm woman, I pretended that I’m in no state whatsoever to do any chores of any kind around the house *he he he*. It’s kinda nice to have someone feed you and rub your feet ;)

Good Husband, Great Marriage

A dear old friend of mine unveiled to me her current read. Being a self-help motivational book junkie that she is, she profusely and incessantly urged me to buy the book.

So last Friday whilst waiting for mon mere and mon pere-in law checking in in KLIA, I took the opportunity to scour a nearby bookshop. While aimlessly rummaging through stacks of books, I found the book that my dear old friend recommended. I flipped the first few pages of the book and got hooked instantaneously! Its funny and witty and just a delight to read for us women and VERY EDUCATIONAL for men (read: HUSBANDS) to read.

What book? Oh, this one….



So I shoved the book into Mr. Frankensteina’s hand. He took one swift look at the title and said a blunt “No”. He even refused my offer to read him snippets from the book (snippets that I feel applicable to him heheheh). So I put the book down, grumble grumble and headed for the magazine sections.

The next thing I saw was this…



Mr. Frankensteina taking refuge at the back of the bookstore with the book in his hands. Gotcha! Haha.

So for those who are looking for something to read, I suggest you keep this book in mind the next time you’re in a bookshop. Mr. Frankensteina and I had a good time reading it.
