"KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court yesterday dismissed blogger Ahirudin Attan's application to strike out the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd suit against him.
Senior assistant registrar Siti Aishah Ab Rashid also ordered costs in dismissing the application. She made her decision in chambers and no grounds were given. With this, the matter is expected to go on trial.Ahirudin had on May 4 made an application to strike out NSTP's amended statement of claim and applied for the suspension of all proceedings until his application was heard.
The NSTP, its deputy chairman, chief executive officer, group-editor-in-chief and Brendan Pereira filed a suit on Jan 4, in relation to certain articles and posts by Ahirudin on his weblog.The plaintiffs had also made an application to initiate committal proceedings against Ahirudin.
The ex-parte notice filed by the NSTP stated that Ahirudin had published six new articles between May 18 and July 8 which were considered sub judice.High Court judge Datuk Mohd Hishammudin Mohd Yunus fixed Nov 21 for decision in the plaintiff's application to initiate committal proceedings."
